Summer means increased UV exposure, so it is important to adjust your skincare routine to account for more time in the sun. To help keep your skin healthy, comfortable, and youthful-looking all season long, our Fort Worth medical spa team shares a few smart skincare tweaks for your summer skincare routine.
1. Ease Up on Actives
Active ingredients such as retinol, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid speed cell turnover (and are ideal for keeping signs of aging and other imperfections at bay!), yet UV exposure makes freshly renewed skin more vulnerable to damage. You can maintain the benefits of these skincare staples without the irritation by adjusting your protocol:
- Apply retinol three nights a week at most, choosing evenings before low-exposure days.
- Pause stronger chemical exfoliants and more frequent application until the fall and winter months.
This balanced approach lets you support collagen and clarity without triggering redness or uneven pigmentation when you are in the sun.

2. Substitute Gentle Physical Exfoliation for Strong Chemical Peels
When you dial back chemical exfoliants, dead cells and other impurities can linger on your skin and block that summer glow. A professional-grade facial scrub every other morning (as tolerated) sweeps away sweat, sunscreen and makeup residue, and excess oil, keeping pores clear and texture smooth with no sting or redness. Remember to listen to your skin: if light flaking or tightness occurs, reduce scrubs to two or three times weekly.
One of our favorite scrubs is ZO® Skin Health’s Exfoliating Polish. Stop by our office or shop our online store and have it shipped right to your door.
3. Lighten Up Your Daytime Moisturizer
Warm, humid air helps skin retain water naturally, so the rich cream that felt comforting in January may now feel suffocating. Swap your heavy winter moisturizer with a weightless gel or lotion formulated with humectants such as glycerin or hyaluronic acid; it locks in moisture without the feel of a thicker formula. Feel free to use heavier moisturizers and nourishing night cream once the sun sets, so these thicker formulas can work their reparative magic overnight.
“I really like this place! The services and the staff are fantastic! Everybody is super kind and professional! I love every person there, but Tiffany has always been beyond patient and caring! She always responds to all of my questions in a way I can understand. They even have some kind of rewards program for the already wonderful skin care products they sell, so each time you buy, real dollars are put into your account which can go towards your next skin care purchase!””

4. Treat Sunscreen as Your Daily Non-Negotiable
Sun protection is the most important product in every skincare routine, no matter the season, and not all sunscreens are created equal. We recommend medical-grade sunblock options to ensure your skin is adequately protected and the ingredients support your skincare goals.
- Choose a broad-spectrum mineral SPF 30+ with zinc and/or titanium for reliable defense.
- Apply a generous layer as the last step of your morning routine—ears, neck, and the backs of hands included.
- Reapply every two hours (and immediately after swimming or heavy sweating).
We love Colorescience® powdered SPF brushes and sheer zinc lotions; both slip easily into a purse or beach bag and make touch-ups effortless. They are also TSA-friendly for your travels this summer! We keep our office stocked and would be happy to help you select the right formula; stop by or order online.
A personalized Hydrafacial is one of our most popular summer skin treatments because of its nourishing serums and pampering experience.
