How does RF microneedling technology work?

Morpheus8 RF microneedling diminishes skin imperfections using two proven skin technologies: microneedling and radiofrequency (RF) energy. Like traditional microneedling, Morpheus8 uses a needle-tipped device to create tiny micro-punctures into the skin’s surface to stimulate new layers of collagen and elastin (the proteins that give your skin natural volume and elasticity). 

The Morpheus8 device also delivers controlled RF energy through the hair-like needles to comfortably heat underlying layers of skin, amplifying the effects of microneedling and tightening the skin. The microneedling and radiofrequency combination technology offers both immediate and long-lasting improvements.

Is Morpheus8 RF microneedling right for me?

If you have mild skin laxity, signs of aging, or other skin imperfections on your face or body, you are likely a good candidate for RF microneedling. 

Who is not a good candidate for Morpheus8 RF microneedling?

If you have certain medical conditions or an active skin condition, such as acne or rosacea, we may recommend alternative treatments, such as chemical peels, Hydrafacial MD®, IPL photofacial, or medical-grade skincare products. Morpheus8 has not been studied in pregnant women, and it is not recommended for treating melasma (hormone-related hyperpigmentation).

Preparing for your Morpheus8 treatment

During your consultation, we assess your skin’s condition and discuss your goals to determine if Morpheus8 RF microneedling would be the appropriate treatment for your specific concerns.

If you decide to move forward with treatment, we provide pre-procedure skincare guidelines based on your unique needs to help prepare your skin: Avoid sun exposure, exfoliants, and retinol at least 2 weeks before your appointment to prevent unnecessary skin irritation. We also advise patients to follow these guidelines for 2 weeks post-treatment to prevent irritation or damage to healing tissues, as overtreating can cause skin damage, poor results, and delay future treatments. 

What to expect with Morpheus8 RF microneedling 

We perform Morpheus8 RF microneedling in our comfortable, private treatment suites and apply a topical numbing cream before your treatment begins to minimize discomfort. With your skin concerns in mind, we program the Morpheus8 system to penetrate the ideal depth for optimal results without compromising your skin’s health. We place the handpiece against the skin to allow the device to quickly “stamp” the sterile needles into the skin and deliver RF energy until we cover the entire treatment area. Depending on the size of the treatment area, the procedure typically takes about 30 to 60 minutes.

Is Morpheus8 RF microneedling painful?

Some temporary discomfort is common; however, we apply a topical numbing cream to make treatments more comfortable. Morpheus8 can penetrate up to 8mm deep (about the length of a grain of rice), so if your treatment requires deep penetration, we also inject a local anesthetic or use IV sedation, depending on your preferences. Most patients report that the pricking and warming sensations during treatments are tolerable with appropriate anesthesia. 

How many Morpheus8 RF microneedling treatments will I need?

We typically recommend a series of 2-3 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart to see the strongest improvement in skin concerns. Adding Morpheus8 RF microneedling treatments is safe if your skin concerns are more severe or you would like to experience further skin rejuvenation.

Recovery and downtime after Morpheus8 RF microneedling

There is little recovery time after RF microneedling treatment, and most patients return to work and daily activities the day after their treatment. Mild redness and swelling typically resolve within a few days. We’ll provide detailed post-treatment care guidelines based on your skin’s condition and the level of treatment you received. Full recovery takes 3-7 days. 

Side effects of Morpheus8 RF microneedling

Side effects are generally temporary and include redness, swelling, or pinpoint bleeding at the treatment sites.

Morpheus8 RF microneedling results 

Visible improvements in blemishes and skin texture and tone appear a few weeks after treatment and continue to improve as new collagen and elastin growth plumps and tightens the skin. Each subsequent treatment achieves more significant results.

Can I combine Morpheus8 RF microneedling with other procedures?

Morpheus8 RF microneedling + IPL 

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) photofacial is our go-to treatment to correct discoloration and pigmentation issues and improve overall skin texture and tone. IPL uses concentrated pulses of light to heat skin tissue, which increases collagen production. The light contains a broad spectrum of wavelengths, which absorb pigments in the skin, particularly red and brown spots.

We safely perform IPL and Morpheus8 treatments during the same appointment and typically recommend 3-6 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results. This is an excellent treatment combination to target discoloration and skin texture at once.

Morpheus8 RF microneedling + CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is one of the most popular non-surgical body contouring treatments. We target stubborn pockets of fat nearly anywhere on the body with FDA-cleared fat-freezing technology. Fat cells are more susceptible to cold temperatures than the surrounding tissues, meaning only targeted fat cells are damaged and naturally eliminated from the body.
